soon to decorate our windows

I have been having a lot of fun this past week designing holiday crafts for our upcoming Discovery Drop-in program on Saturday December 15th. I am most excited about the window display we are preparing. We are going to decorate our windows with spawning sockeye in festive red and green colours and icy blue and silver sturgeon.  Made with tissue paper and contact paper, these fish look like stained glass when placed on the window and will bring some holiday cheer to the boardwalk.

We would like your help to complete the window. There are two opportunities to come decorate fish: Saturday, December 15th from 11-3 at our Discovery Drop-in event at the Discovery Centre, and on Friday, December 21st from 3:30-6 at the River Market. Come by and help us create a festive holiday sockeye for our window. You can also make some other river-inspired decorations to take home to brighten up your homes for the holidays.

The window display will be completed as part of the City of New Westminster’s Christmas at the Waterfront event on Friday December 21st. The event kicks off at 3 p.m. at the River Market with a lantern making workshop and our salmon crafts. Just before 6 p.m., we will complete the window display in time for people to proceed with their completed lanterns from the River Market to the Pier Park for a community holiday celebration hosted by the City of New Westminster.
